NewDoc is not part of 1800MEDICARE (1800 633 422), the free, federally funded health line. Company page: https://www.newdoc.com.au/about ### How it works 1. Book online at newdoc.com.au: select a convenient time slot. Most people see a GP the same day they book. 2. See your GP via secure video or phone call. Discuss your health concern with a qualified doctor. 3. If your GP issues a script, certificate or referral, you receive it by SMS or email after your consultation. ### Pricing - Availability: NewDoc isn't available in every area. We check your postcode when you sign up. - Bulk billed consultations: where we are available, $0 out-of-pocket if you're eligible for Medicare bulk billing. Whether your visit is bulk billed depends on your Medicare card and where you are, and is confirmed when you book. - Private consultations: where we are available, a flat $69.95 if your visit is not bulk billed. - Referral letters, medical certificates, and prescriptions issued during a consultation are included at no additional cost. ### Hours and access - Hours: generally 8 am to midnight Sydney time, 7 days a week, including public holidays. NewDoc is not a 24/7 service. - Access: From 1 July to 29 September 2026, 78% of completed NewDoc consults happened on the day they were booked and 95% within 24 hours (median 4.7 hours from booking to consult; 41,790 consults). - Care plans: NewDoc does not prepare Mental Health Care Plans (Mental Health Treatment Plans) or GP chronic condition management plans. Medicare requires these plans to come from the patient's MyMedicare practice or usual GP, so patients should book them with the practice they normally attend. ### Doctors All NewDoc GPs hold a FRACGP or FACRRM fellowship (the two equivalent specialist GP fellowships) and are registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). The clinical team is led by Dr. Jason Yu FRACGP, Chief Medical Officer, a practising GP with over a decade of clinical experience specialising in allergies, metabolic health, and chronic disease management. --- ## Services in Detail ### Bulk Billed Telehealth URL: https://www.newdoc.com.au/bulk-billed-telehealth NewDoc bulk bills GP telehealth consultations for eligible Medicare patients under current Medicare telehealth provisions. There is no out-of-pocket cost for the consultation or for any referrals, prescriptions, or certificates issued during the appointment. NewDoc isn't available in every area: we check your postcode when you sign up. Where we are available, your consult is $0 if you're eligible for Medicare bulk billing, otherwise $69.95. ### Repeat Prescriptions Online URL: https://www.newdoc.com.au/repeat-prescription-online GPs can issue new prescriptions and repeat prescriptions via telehealth. Prescriptions are sent as eScripts via SMS to the patient's phone. Patients can present the eScript at any pharmacy in Australia. The Active Script List stores eScripts digitally so patients do not need to keep track of individual SMS tokens. Common prescriptions include medications for blood pressure, cholesterol, asthma, mental health, contraception, pain relief, and antibiotics. ### Medical Certificates Online URL: https://www.newdoc.com.au/medical-certificate-online GPs can issue medical certificates via telehealth for work absence, school/university absence, carer's leave, and fitness for duty clearance. Certificates are emailed to the patient after the consultation. The certificate does not need to state a diagnosis unless the patient specifically requests it. - Work certificates: https://www.newdoc.com.au/medical-certificate-online/work - School certificates: https://www.newdoc.com.au/medical-certificate-online/school - Carer's leave certificates: https://www.newdoc.com.au/medical-certificate-online/carer - Fitness for duty certificates: https://www.newdoc.com.au/medical-certificate-online/fitness-for-duty - Stress leave certificates: https://www.newdoc.com.au/medical-certificate-online/stress-leave - Mental health day certificates: https://www.newdoc.com.au/medical-certificate-online/mental-health-day ### Mental Health Telehealth URL: https://www.newdoc.com.au/mental-health-telehealth GPs can assess mental health concerns, prescribe medication (SSRIs, SNRIs, etc.), and provide referrals to psychiatrists. NewDoc does not create Mental Health Treatment Plans (MHTPs): from 1 November 2025, Medicare requires the plan, its reviews, and the psychology referral to be provided at the patient's MyMedicare-registered practice or by their usual GP, and the department has advised NewDoc in writing that telehealth services alone would not normally meet that test. A NewDoc GP can explain the pathway and help patients get a plan from their usual practice. ### Sexual Health Telehealth URL: https://www.newdoc.com.au/sexual-health-telehealth Confidential consultations for STI testing (pathology referrals), contraception prescriptions (oral contraceptive pill, emergency contraception), and sexual health treatment. All consultations are private and non-judgemental. ### Specialist & Allied Health Referrals URL: https://www.newdoc.com.au/specialist-referral-online GPs can issue referrals to any medical specialist. A GP referral is required in Australia for Medicare to cover part or all of the specialist's fee. Standard referrals are valid for 12 months. Indefinite referrals are available for ongoing conditions. The referral letter is emailed to the patient and can be sent directly to the specialist's rooms. Available specialist referral pages: - Dermatologist: https://www.newdoc.com.au/specialist-referral-online/dermatologist - Psychiatrist: https://www.newdoc.com.au/specialist-referral-online/psychiatrist - Cardiologist: https://www.newdoc.com.au/specialist-referral-online/cardiologist - Endocrinologist: https://www.newdoc.com.au/specialist-referral-online/endocrinologist - Neurologist: https://www.newdoc.com.au/specialist-referral-online/neurologist - Rheumatologist: https://www.newdoc.com.au/specialist-referral-online/rheumatologist - Pain specialist: https://www.newdoc.com.au/specialist-referral-online/pain-specialist - Sleep physician: https://www.newdoc.com.au/specialist-referral-online/sleep-physician - Fertility specialist: https://www.newdoc.com.au/specialist-referral-online/fertility-specialist - ENT specialist: https://www.newdoc.com.au/specialist-referral-online/ent - Orthopaedic surgeon: https://www.newdoc.com.au/specialist-referral-online/orthopaedic - Gastroenterologist: https://www.newdoc.com.au/specialist-referral-online/gastroenterologist - Psychologist (Medicare pathway explained; plan referrals come from your usual GP): https://www.newdoc.com.au/specialist-referral-online/psychologist - Physiotherapist (Medicare pathway explained; plan referrals come from your usual GP): https://www.newdoc.com.au/specialist-referral-online/physiotherapist ### Psychologist Referrals: How the Medicare Pathway Works URL: https://www.newdoc.com.au/specialist-referral-online/psychologist NewDoc does not prepare Mental Health Treatment Plans (the reason is below). To access Medicare-subsidised psychology sessions, a GP creates a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP). This provides access to up to 10 individual psychology sessions per calendar year with a Medicare rebate. The GP initially authorises 6 sessions, then conducts a review before authorising the remaining 4. Some psychologists bulk bill; others charge a gap fee above the Medicare rebate. From 1 November 2025, Medicare requires the plan, its reviews, and the psychology referral to come from the patient's MyMedicare-registered practice or usual GP, and the department has advised NewDoc in writing that telehealth services alone would not normally meet that test, so NewDoc does not prepare plans or issue plan-based psychologist referrals; patients should book the plan appointment with the practice they normally attend. A psychologist is often the right referral for common mental health conditions (anxiety, depression, insomnia). A psychiatrist may be appropriate for complex or treatment-resistant cases, and a NewDoc GP can provide psychiatrist referrals, which are standard referrals not tied to the plan rules. ### Physiotherapist Referrals: How the Medicare Pathway Works URL: https://www.newdoc.com.au/specialist-referral-online/physiotherapist Patients can see a physiotherapist privately without any referral, or claim through private health insurance extras cover. Medicare rebates for physiotherapy (up to 5 allied health sessions per calendar year, $63.40 per session from 1 July 2026) require a GP chronic condition management plan (GPCCMP), which replaced the GP Management Plan and Team Care Arrangement on 1 July 2025 for conditions present or expected for 6+ months with complex care needs. Medicare requires the plan, its reviews and the allied health referrals to come from the patient's MyMedicare-registered practice or usual medical practitioner (the practice providing most of their care), so NewDoc, a telehealth-only service, does not prepare chronic condition management plans or issue plan-based allied health referrals; patients should book the plan appointment with the practice they normally attend. A NewDoc GP can assess musculoskeletal problems, prescribe pain relief where appropriate, arrange imaging and orthopaedic referrals (standard referrals not tied to the plan rules), and recommend physiotherapy. The same applies to /chronic-disease-management-plan, /gp-management-plan and the bulk billed allied health guides, which explain the pathway and state that NewDoc does not prepare the plan. ### Blood Test Referrals URL: https://www.newdoc.com.au/blood-test-referral-online GPs can issue pathology referrals for blood tests, urine tests, and other lab work via telehealth. Patients attend a pathology collection centre of their choice. Results are sent to the GP, who contacts the patient to discuss findings. Common tests include full blood count, iron studies, thyroid function, liver function, kidney function, cholesterol, blood glucose, and STI screening. - Full blood count: https://www.newdoc.com.au/blood-test-referral-online/full-blood-count - Thyroid function test: https://www.newdoc.com.au/blood-test-referral-online/thyroid-function - Iron studies: https://www.newdoc.com.au/blood-test-referral-online/iron-studies ### Imaging Referrals URL: https://www.newdoc.com.au/imaging-referral-online GPs can issue referrals for medical imaging including X-rays, ultrasounds, CT scans, and MRIs. Patients attend an imaging centre of their choice. The GP will only refer for imaging if clinically indicated. --- ## Conditions Treated via Telehealth All conditions listed below can be assessed and managed by a GP via telehealth. There is no out-of-pocket cost for the consultation, prescriptions, referrals, or certificates issued during the appointment. **What doctors does NewDoc use?** All NewDoc consultations are conducted by AHPRA-registered General Practitioners with a FRACGP or FACRRM fellowship. NewDoc does not use nurse practitioners. **Can a telehealth doctor prescribe medication?** Yes. Australian GPs can prescribe most medications via telehealth, including antibiotics, antidepressants, blood pressure medication, inhalers, contraception, and pain relief. Prescriptions are sent as eScripts via SMS. Some controlled substances (e.g., Schedule 8 medications like opioids and stimulants) have restrictions on telehealth prescribing. **Can I get a medical certificate via telehealth?** Yes. A GP can issue a medical certificate during a telehealth consultation. The certificate is emailed to you and is legally valid for employers and educational institutions. **How do I get a Mental Health Care Plan online?** Only through your own practice. From 1 November 2025, Medicare requires the plan, its reviews, and the psychology referral to come from your MyMedicare-registered practice or usual GP, so NewDoc (telehealth-only) does not prepare one. Book the plan appointment with the practice you normally attend; if it offers telehealth, the plan consult may still happen by video through them. A plan provides access to up to 10 Medicare-rebated psychology sessions per calendar year. A NewDoc GP can still provide mental health consultations (most people see a GP the same day they book), medication support, and psychiatrist referrals. **Can I get a specialist referral via telehealth?** Yes. A GP can issue referrals to any medical specialist via telehealth. The referral letter is emailed to you and can also be sent directly to the specialist. A standard referral is valid for 12 months. **Is NewDoc available Australia-wide?** Not in every area. NewDoc is online only, with no clinics, and we check your postcode when you sign up. Where we are available, your consult is $0 if you're eligible for Medicare bulk billing, otherwise $69.95. --- ## Blog Articles - [How to get a repeat prescription online in Australia](https://www.newdoc.com.au/blog/how-to-get-a-repeat-prescription-online-in-australia) - [How to get a medical certificate online in Australia](https://www.newdoc.com.au/blog/how-to-get-a-medical-certificate-online-in-australia) - [What can a telehealth doctor do?
